UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY

The suspension cable car that operates to Mt. Lomnický štít is a unique European masterpiece! It was the only of its kind until 1955, when it was outmatched by the cable car operating from Chamonix to Aiguille du Midi in France. The building was designed by Dušan Jurkovič, an eminent architect who was considered a phenomenon in the area of Slovakia. The High Tatras are lucky to have a piece of his work preserved on the cable car buildings.

THE HISTORY OF SPORT

It´s mainly winter sports that went down in history in the Tatras. Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and ski jumping on wooden ski jumps attracted unusual masses of tourists.

Cross-country skiing was a sports activity that influenced the modernisation and construction of ski resorts in the whole territory of the High Tatras the most.

The Tatras are still a popular sports area for all professional and recreational sportsmen due to their unique climate. Come and let your body sweat with us!

SACRAL MONUMENTS IN THE TATRAS AND THE SURROUNDINGS

Churches have always been dominant in small towns and villages in the region of Spiš under the Tatras. One of the most precious ones is the church of St. George located in the town part of Poprad - Spišská Sobota, which dates back to the 13th century.

Wooden churches that are part of the cultural heritage of UNESCO count to typical examples of sacral folk architecture in Eastern Slovakia. You can find them in the High Tatras as well, in Starý and Dolný Smokovcec, in Tatranská Kotlina, Tatranská Javorina, Poprad and Kežmarok.

The Symbolic Cemetery at the tarn of Popradské pleso is a significant culture monument in memory of victims of the High Tatras.
