1. .<\/strong> Tatransk\u00e1 vrch\u00e1rska koruna (Tatra mountain crown) \u2013 4 cycling challenges in the High Tatras<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The so-called Tatra mountain crown<\/em> is among the legendary cycle routes of Slovakia. Covering around 90 kilometres <\/strong>with an altitude difference of roughly 2,300 metres<\/strong>, it links four major ascents in the Tatras, testing both endurance and cycling skills: Popradsk\u00e9 pleso (tarn), Sliezsky dom (mountain hotel), Hrebienok and \u0160tart.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each climb has its character \u2013 from the moderate but tourist-frequented ascent to Popradsk\u00e9 pleso, through the steep and demanding climb to Sliezsky dom, to the shorter but intense ascents to Hrebienok and \u0160tart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route is intended for road bikes and experienced riders looking for a mixture of physical challenge, spectacular views and the atmosphere of the Tatras. It is recommended to start in the foothills so the body has time to warm up before the first climb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    About \u0160oldov<\/strong>:<\/strong>
    On the edge of the village of \u0160trba in the foothills of the Tatras, there lie the remains of the former medieval settlement of \u0160oldov. Shrouded in mystery, it is barely mentioned in historical records. It is believed to be very old, older than all other surrounding villages in the area. Alongside houses, there was also a small church and possibly even a Benedictine monastery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u0160oldov is an important archaeological site with valuable finds. Human skeletons over 200 centimetres tall were discovered there, which is an extraordinary height for that period. Perhaps this gave rise to the legend that giants once lived there. Today, the area of partly reconstructed remains includes a memorial, an information board and a small resting site.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A district of Poprad and a recreational area in the Kozie chrbty mountain range. Here you\u2019ll find:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Kvetnica educational trail \u2013 9 stops introducing the forest vegetation zones of Slovakia on a small area of Poprad municipal forests, the Z\u00e1m\u010disko archaeological site and the Hranovn\u00edcka dubina national nature reserve<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Hiking trails<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • A game reserve with mouflons and wild boars<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Two quarries with mineral findings, especially agates around 250 million years old; one of the quarries is flooded and used for recreation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Old mining tunnels \u2013 St. Helen tunnel and Silver tunnel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      • On foot:<\/strong> From Hrebienok to the waterfalls of Studen\u00fd potok, with the option to continue to Rainer\u2019s hut.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Difficulty:<\/strong> Easy to moderately demanding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

        2. Tatransk\u00e1 Polianka \u2013 Sliezsky dom<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

        • By bike:<\/strong> Asphalt road from the Tatransk\u00e1 Polianka stop up to Sliezsky dom (steep climb).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • On foot:<\/strong> Walk around Velick\u00e9 pleso (tarn) and Velick\u00fd vodop\u00e1d (waterfall), with the possibility to continue along the hiking trail towards Po\u013esk\u00fd hrebe\u0148 (saddle) or Mt V\u00fdchodn\u00e1 Vysok\u00e1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderately difficult (much easier with an e-bike).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Ideal for:<\/strong> Experienced cyclists who want to experience the alpine environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          • By bike:<\/strong> From \u0160trbsk\u00e9 Pleso along the asphalt road towards Popradsk\u00e9 pleso.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • On foot:<\/strong> From the turn-off to the Symbolic cemetery, continue to Popradsk\u00e9 pleso and back, with options to extend to Mt Ostrva or Mt Rysy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Difficulty:<\/strong> Moderately demanding, suitable also for e-bikes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            4. Podbansk\u00e9 \u2013 Tich\u00e1 dolina or K\u00f4prov\u00e1 dolina (valleys)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            • By bike:<\/strong> Through Tich\u00e1 dolina and K\u00f4prov\u00e1 dolina as far as the end of the asphalt roads in the valleys.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • On foot:<\/strong> Continue along the hiking trails towards Kme\u0165ov vodop\u00e1d (waterfall).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Difficulty:<\/strong> Easy, with beautiful views.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
