Getting to the Tatras is easier than you think. We'll show you how to get there.
Whether you're coming by car, train, or bus, the High Tatras are easily accessible from all over Slovakia and from abroad.
The High Tatras region lies in the heart of Slovakia and is well connected to the country’s transportation infrastructure.
From Bratislava, you can reach Poprad—the region’s main transportation hub—by train in less than three hours. From Poprad, the Tatra tram or bus will take you directly to the center of the Tatra resorts. For those who prefer to drive, the D1 highway provides convenient access from most cities in Slovakia.
The region itself has a dense public transportation network—the Tatra tram connects Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec, and Tatranská Lomnica; the cog railway takes visitors from the village of Štrba directly to Štrbské Pleso; and buses cover even the more remote parts of the region. During the winter season, the SkiBUS provides convenient transportation directly to the ski resorts. The Tatras are a destination where you don’t need a car—and often, a trip is much more enjoyable without one.
