Mountain Rescue Service and Insurance
Get insurance for your trip to the mountains
As of July 1, 2006, any person in a mountainous area is required to reimburse the mountain rescue service for the costs associated with rescue operations or search efforts.
Set out on an adventure in the High Tatras with mountain insurance—whether you’re a recreational hiker, climber, ski mountaineer, or extreme sports enthusiast. Standard public health insurance and travel insurance do not cover the costs incurred by the Mountain Rescue Service in connection with rescue operations or search efforts. The costs of technical interventions—such as transport on a stretcher, search operations, and aerial rescue—must be paid by every person in a mountain environment. This obligation does not apply to children or persons lacking legal capacity.
Insurance companies divide mountain insurance into two categories: “basic” for ordinary hikers traveling on marked trails, and “extreme” for mountaineering, ski mountaineering, and adrenaline sports.
