(Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš, 7th October 2025)This winter, a brand-new flight route will connect the Tatras with the Polish city of Gdańsk. Starting from 25th December 2025, Wizz Air will operate flights twice a week, giving skiers a comfortable way to travel from the Baltic Sea straight to top ski resorts in the High Tatras and on Mt Chopok in just a few hours. For Poprad – Tatry Airport, this is excellent news. For hoteliers in the High Tatras and the Liptov region, it’s also a big opportunity and a challenge to prepare attractive winter holiday packages with transfers from the airport included and to win over a new group of winter guests.

Bringing the Tatras and Liptov with Gdańsk together has long been a dream, and this winter it is finally becoming reality. “From a tourism perspective, Poprad Airport has huge potential. Skiers can reach selected accommodation establishments in Poprad within minutes of landing and be on ski pistes or settled in hotels in the High Tatras or Jasná in under an hour. This kind of accessibility gives Slovak ski resorts a powerful competitive edge — and we fully intend to make the most of it,” said Lucia Blašková, Director of the REGION VYSOKÉ TATRY regional tourism organisation.

The new route was officially presented at a press conference in Gdańsk today. “Flights from Gdańsk to Poprad will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The very first flight to the Tatras will take off on Christmas Day, 25th December 2025,” said Darina Bartková, Director of the REGION LIPTOV regional tourism organisation. Further details about the flight schedules and accommodation packages will be released soon. The launch of the new service was announced by Wizz Air.

Poprad – Tatry Airport is known as a key gateway to the Tatras, and travellers appreciate its friendly, family-like atmosphere and fast passenger handling. “We’ve been working on securing this connection for several months, and we truly believe it will be a success. Now, it’s up to travel agencies, hoteliers and transport providers to respond quickly and prepare attractive ski packages for Tatranská Lomnica, Štrbské Pleso and Jasná,” said Ján Pitoňák, Director of Poprad – Tatry Airport.

But it’s not just ski pistes that make the Tatras such an irresistible winter destination. Visitors from Poland can also look forward to top-quality water parks in Poprad, Bešeňová and Liptovský Mikuláš, the spectacular Tatra Temple of Ice in Hrebienok, unforgettable winter hikes to cosy mountain chalets and breathtaking views. The Tatras have a lot to offer, and for residents of Gdańsk and the surrounding region, a winter escape to Slovakia is set to become a truly attractive and accessible alternative.

And there’s another bonus: Poprad – Tatry Airport can process passengers much faster than many airports in Alpine or Dolomite ski destinations. At 718 metres above sea level, it holds the title of the highest-located Central European airport for short- and medium-haul flights.

The High Tatras Region and Visit Liptov now have a lot of work ahead of them – to present the destination in Poland as part of marketing campaigns that will be implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic!
