Subtatra Museum in Poprad

The Podtatra Museum in Poprad is one of the oldest museums in Slovakia. It is located in a building built in 1886, in a pseudo-Renaissance style, and will answer many questions about the history of the Tatra region. The museum was founded by the Hungarian-Carpathian Association in 1876.

The museum will guide visitors through life in the Tatra Mountains from prehistoric times to the present day. There is also an exposition dedicated to the Neanderthal from Gánoviec.

The museum has 52,500 pieces of collection items and more than 18,000 volumes of books in the museum library. Visitors are also offered two new permanent exhibitions. The first, Poprad and its surroundings in the mirror of the ages, presents the history of the settlement of the Tatras region from the Neanderthal to the present day. The second one will be dedicated to a unique archaeological find - the tomb of the Grand Duke from Poprad - Matejoviec from the end of the 4th to the beginning of the 5th century AD. l. Objects of craft workshops, located in the garden of the museum, will also be part of these exhibitions.
