A pleasant hike through the mouth of Javorová Valley follows a babbling stream all the way to a wooden shelter beneath the Muráň rock face
The hike from Tatranská Javorina to Poľana below Muráň is one of the most beautiful and peaceful walks in the northern part of the High Tatras. The trail begins in the historic village of Tatranská Javorina and leads through the mouth of the picturesque Javorová Valley along a paved forest road lined by the Javorinka River. Thanks to its minimal elevation gain and the shade provided by the forest, this hike is a popular destination for families with young children and seniors.
The trail ends at Poľana pod Muráňom, where there is a wooden hiking shelter with seating, educational panels, and a spring. From the meadow, an impressive view opens up of the steep limestone wall of Muráň—the westernmost peak of the Belianske Tatras. From the clearing, you can return the same way or continue along the blue trail deeper into the Javorová Valley or follow the green trail to the neighboring Zadná Meďodolina.

The section leading to Poľana below Muráň is one of the most accessible valley trails in the Tatras. Protected by the forest from direct wind and intense sunlight, it offers a safe and effortless way to experience the Tatra wilderness.
Muráň (1,890 m above sea level) is the dominant limestone peak of the Belianske Tatras, featuring a characteristic vertical rock face. The most beautiful and detailed view of the hill is from the Poľana meadow below Muráň, complemented by the backdrop of the surrounding forests.
We recommend combining this trip with a tour of the wooden St. Anne’s Church, built in 1903, and a visit to the historic wooden hunting lodge of Prince Hohenlohe, located just a short distance above the village.
A leisurely trip to the quiet mouth of Javorová Valley
The trail starts in Tatranská Javorina (at the fork in the road below the Post Office or the central parking lot) and follows the blue and green hiking trails. It runs along a wide, paved gravel and forest road with a very gentle, gradual ascent alongside the Javorinka River. The trail is completely safe, with no technical sections, exposed passages, or large rocks.
The elevation difference between the town center and Poľana pod Muráňom is approximately 80 meters, spread over a distance of 2 km in one direction. The route is ideal for a relaxing half-day outing, and thanks to its paved surface, even parents with sports or all-terrain strollers can manage it with ease.
